During swimming work

Kia Ora bloggers, in class we had a matrix of work to do I have chosen to create my own super villain by the name of Darth Sagus. The other task I chose to do was a video game but I have lost the game it didn't save.

We have been doing these while some other people in the class go swimming.

Here is my supervillain! I also have a picture of my game.

Cool Ki o Rahi video

Kia Ora bloggers, today I made a scratch video on Ki o Rahi a Maori game.

The general idea of the game.

 Ki o Rahi is a ball sport (the ball is known as the “kī”) that is a combination of netball, handball and tag rugby.

 Games are 5 minute quarters with an immediate change at quarter time and a 2 minute break at half time.

 The sport is non-contact but players wear a belt holding two velcro tags around their waist. Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

 No watches or other jewelry are allowed to be worn during play.

 All players must wear black shorts. IFC multisport shirts will be provided and must be returned.

 Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times – no metal studs or bare feet.

 In the case of a default, the non-offending team will be recorded as winning 5-0.

Here is my animation! Hope you enjoy it!  https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/444776190/

Hangi cooking comparision

Kia ora bloggers, today I had to make something that shows the difference between a hangi and the new hangi cookers. I made a canva to show this, I do two different posters one for the old hangi way and one for the new hangi cooker.

The two different ways have pros and cons. The pros of the new hangi cooker is that it cooks quicker and needs less work, but the cons are you can't cook as much. The old way for the hangi's, the cons are it takes time and effort and needs people to help, but it can give a better taste.

Here they are!

Haka history

Kia Ora bloggers, the last few afternoons we have been learning about the culture of New Zealand. We had a task to do it was to choose either the haka, the moko, and the Korowai. My group picked the haka, we had to learn about the meaning and use of it and things like that.

Here is my work!

Lit Leaders trip

Kia Ora bloggers, This Monday and Tuesday I went on a leaders course with the other leaders of marshland school. We learned about seven habits a great leader has, we also got to do lots of fun activities like rock climbing, table tennis, and playing foosball.

The place we went to was Papanui youth development. They have lots of people from other schools come and they work with disabled people to help get them ready to go into the real world.

Comment if you have been there before!

Science experiment

Kia Ora bloggers the last few weeks we have been doing an experiment and writing about it, we made crystals. Our question was what crystal will work the best if we change the dissolved material. We made three different crystals sugar crystal, salt crystal, and borax crystal. The sugar crystals grow long but thin,  the salt crystals build up very slowly, the borax crystal grows wide but shorter.

Our crystals worked well, our sugar crystal worked perfectly like the video, The salt crystal didn't work as well, but the borax work perfectly as well.

Here is our video on it!

Sign language

Kia Ora bloggers this Wednesday for sign language week we had to do hello my name is _____. I have a video on this. At the start instead of saying hello my name is, you say hello my name what.

Here is some information.

NZSL is a combination of hand shapes, facial expressions, and body movements.
NZSL is the natural language of the Deaf community in New Zealand; it reflects New Zealand culture by including signs for Maori terminology and concepts, which can not be found in other sign languages or countries.
As one of the country’s official languages, more than 24,000 New Zealanders use NZSL daily. It is also the 12th most frequently used language out of approximately 190 languages currently used in New Zealand (Census 2006).
So why aren't other languages recognized in the same way? Other languages - Samoan, Tongan, Mandarin, Cantonese, etc - have recognition in their own country of origin. Like Maori, NZSL is strictly “home-grown” in New Zealand.
There are hundreds of sign-based languages in use around the world, and even within a given language, there can be regional dialects. For example, people in Christchurch may use slightly different signs than people in Wellington.
As spoken languages can be different from one region or country to another (for example English), so too can sign languages. American Sign Language, for instance, is quite different from British Sign Language.
Points to remember about NZSL

Hitchhikers Guide Symbols

Kia Ora bloggers, in literacy this week I did my symbol writing. For symbols, we had to find something in the book that meant something. We had to find five of these. Next week I just have to do my genres then I am done with my site. check out my site, do you like it?

ASCII Code

Kia Ora bloggers, today when made our names in ASCII. ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

My name in numbers is 20 15 13, 19 5 12 12 5 18 19. My name in ASCII is 01110100 01101111 01101101 01110011 01100101 01101100 01101100 01100101 01110010 01110011.

Global issue image

In inquiry, we had to go around tables and write about the image on the table. When we had finished that we choose an image and wrote a paragraph on it here's mine. This shows some irony that they don't believe in global warming but the water has risen over there message. This proves global warming is real. I picked this one because it has a bit of humor. Do you like the image?

Super Siapo art

Kia Ora bloggers, today I made a Samoan Siapo art. Siapo art is one of the oldest and most important traditions of Samoa  It is a type of cloth made from the bark of the mulberry tree.  It is very time-consuming, because the bark must be harvested, stripped, separated, scraped, and beaten before it can be used.  It is then laid out in the sun to dry.

The artist uses natural dyes, created from items such as berries, bark, and nuts to make patterns on the cloth.  There are 13 traditional patterns used on siapo that represent things common to Samoan cultures such as nets, coconut leaves, shells, and flowers.

Kia Ora bloggers this week in maths we have been playing a game called take three. There are 21 counters you can take 1, 2, and 3 counters away. We had to find a way to always win. The way to win is to start and take one then you must keep it at multiples of four. In literacy, we have been writing more themes on our website. I added language to mine. At home maybe you could play take three as well and rig it?

W3ek3 w0rK 1n C0\/1d - 19

Kia Ora bloggers this week I have been doing lots of work and read some of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and more Friyay task. here is some of my work. My Friyay task for this week was some art each one done in 90 seconds or less, online. In literacy one day we had to make a thing on probable, improbable, and impossible, and on the other side, it is finite and infinite. One of my other literacy tasks was a story and something improbable, here is mine.
On a nice sunny day, young me was outside playing with our toy tent and my brother was playing. At the time the game was fun maybe not now as much. We were running around playing and pretend fighting when I walk across the lawn and a bird pooed on my head as it was flying past. I went inside to have a shower because I didn’t have a hat on. I kept saying it yuck and eww but my Dad told me that it’s good luck. So after my shower, I went outside and want another bird to poo on my head so I’d have the best luck ever but after ten minutes I got bored like all little kids do. Do you like the work?

Finale essay

Food waste

You might think that we are not wasting food but actually, we are wasting a lot. People are going without food they have started campaigns and research to help this cause and that’s a good thing because would you like to go without a meal or if you steal had the same amount of meals they would have less food. Some of these people don’t have enough money to pay for food.

We are wasting too much food we need to do something and they have. An initial literature review into household food waste was undertaken in 2013 and found out that a lot of available information on food waste in New Zealand was out of date so they couldn’t do that so.

Research into supermarket food waste was conducted by Otago University in partnership with Waste MINZ from 2017 to 2018. The site inspections were conducted in 20 cafes and restaurants around the country by the University of Otago and Waste MINZ. Food waste was collected and analyzed to understand how much food is wasted. We could take in all of the wasted food and turn it into compost like reclaim they take meats, dairy fruits, vegetables and other things instead of putting it into landfills which releases methane.

The results of the research, Food waste in the cafe and restaurant sector in New Zealand.
studies have shown that the average household throws away three shopping trolleys worth of food a year. That’s 157,398 tonnes or $1.17 billion worth of avoidable food going straight to landfill. There, it’ll decompose and release methane – a harmful greenhouse gas which by some measures is 25 times more harmful than carbon dioxide. On a global scale, more than $1.2 trillion worth of food goes to landfill every year, making approximately 8% of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions.

Auckland Council conducted 27 in-depth interviews with individuals who were responsible for purchasing and/or preparing food within their households. The interviewees resided in various locations around the Auckland region and each spent a week recording their food waste in a food waste diary before being interviewed.

When we are putting all the waste in the landfill we could be saving millions if we didn’t buy all the wasted food if we did that we wouldn’t have to waste our time putting it into landfill and save money by not having to maintain the landfill and pay to get the waste moved so we could save a lot of money, food and time by just doing these little things.

Research shows those who eat out more than three times a week are more likely to waste food, wasting around 21 percent of all food purchased.
So, in conclusion, we can save a lot and do a lot. Remember when you go shopping remember do you really need all of that will you eat it all because if you don’t where will it go to the landfill. You could get a compost bin just remember where will your food waste go try to cut down. Thank you.

Perfect Portrait

Kia ora Bloggers.
In school, we have been making portraits to show the things we like. I worked hard on it and I think that it is pretty good. In mine, I have football, touch, Xbox, friends.

                                                                   (portrait here)

What do you think of it?
If you made one what would you have in the background anything the same as mine?
We got the idea from a guy called Romero Britto who has done lots of famous people's portraits they are all very colourful and cool I think his are better but I still like mine.
Thanks for reading please leave a comment.

Waste

So many people are wasting time actually the normal person wastes 65% of there life which is a bit crazy. People are also ruining the environment with another kind of waste with plastic like the pacific garbage patch. We need to do something quickly or it won’t end well for us humans and earth.
I’m going to tell you about plastic and whats it’s doing. Each day, about 8 million pieces of plastic pollution end up in our oceans, since the 1950s, about 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been produced worldwide. 60% of all plastic pollution in the ocean is estimated to come from land-based pollution. incase you haven’t heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, it’s an area in the North Pacific where a slow swirling whirlpool of ocean currents collects plastic. Charles Moore, an oceanographer who discovered this terrible thing estimates that the patch will grow to double its size within the next ten years.
In conclusion, we need to do something about this our it could get so big that it could take over the ocean imagine that no beach to swim at, I love the beach so I don’t want this to happen and I don’t think you would like that too. So when you see some plastic on the ground Pick it up and put it in the bin.
